Goal:  Ensure that the cats in the retail adoption program are happy, healthy and well taken care of  by managing the recruitment, training and scheduling of volunteers.

Most cats in the Toronto Cat Rescue program are located in foster homes or at our retail adoption partnership locations, such as PetSmart Milton. Our team of volunteers enable these adoptions by caring for the cats and introducing them to prospective adopters. 

As a Store Volunteer Coordinator your role would include:

  • Manage a weekly schedule to ensure all shifts are covered.

  • Arrange training for new volunteers and ongoing training for existing volunteers in accordance with TCR and PetSmart policies.

  • Receive, review and respond to volunteer inquiries and applications.

  • Act as a central point of contact for all store volunteer related communications.

  • Maintain a current volunteer contact list with up-to-date information.

  • Maintain communication with other leads and coordinators as needed.

  • Track and log volunteer hours.

  • Assist in the organizing and running of special adoption events.

Requirements:

  • Strong organization and communication skills

  • Ability to keep detailed records

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and professionally

  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team

  • Have access to email and phone to be able to monitor communication daily

  • Proficiency with Gmail, Google Docs and Sheets an asset

  • Able to visit the store at least once per week

  • Attend a quarterly special adoption event

  • Knowledge of cat care, health and behaviour


Training a new Volunteer Coordinator takes time.  As such, we ask that applicants be available to commit to at least 6 months of their time.
