Board Update by Kay Brenders, Board Chair
Hello Everyone,
I am pleased to be writing to our Toronto Cat Rescue community to update you on the latest Board activities, coming out of our Annual General Meeting, at the end of March 2025, and very productive Strategic Planning discussions this past weekend. More on the new Strategic Plan in the coming months.
A year ago, the Board began streamlining our processes in an effort to bring a renewed focus to our work. We have shifted back to a governance model, with a smaller complement, concentrating on providing strategic guidance. This has been facilitated by having a strong and effective team of professionals, leading on Operations.
As part of our shift, we want to promote the regular infusion of new ideas, perspectives, energy and expertise. This will help TCR be strong, resilient and innovative, well into the future. It will also allow for greater engagement, by more people. We look forward to welcoming qualified individuals, with diverse backgrounds, experience and skill sets, more frequently, to participate in the Board, its committees and the continued building of TCR. Stay tuned for recruitment opportunities in the future.
In implementing the new model, we are also succession planning for key Board positions. We are capitalizing on the transfer of corporate memory from those who have served TCR, with passion and commitment, for many years. As the baton gets passed, we are harnessing the wisdom and knowledge of our predecessors.
Two members who have just completed their Board tenure, are Suzanne Patterson, and Arlene Thomas. They have been steadfast in their support of TCR. We hope to stay in touch with them, keeping up with their exciting life adventures. They will always be a part of the TCR family. Thank you Arlene and Suzanne!
As Arlene steps away from the role of Board Secretary, Kevin Wilson, is generously stepping in to take it on, in his final year on the Board. Thank you, Kevin!
Last but not least, Tony Schoeppich, has transitioned his Treasurer responsibilities to Jennifer Wong, our newest Board Director. Jennifer is no stranger to TCR, having been a member of the Finance Committee for over a year. We are fortunate to have Tony continuing on the Board, for another year. Thank you, Tony and welcome, Jennifer!
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Volunteer Appreciation celebration on May 3rd.
With deepest gratitude to the TCR community for your continued support of our cats and our mission.
Kay Brenders, Board Chair
