About
Toronto Cat Rescue
Toronto
Cat Rescue is a registered charity
(No. 889-198-727-RR-0001).
Toronto
Cat Rescue is often the only hope for a homeless, abandoned, sick or injured
cat. We also help cats escape situations of abuse, neglect, or imminent
euthanasia. We see some terribly sad cases, but happily many of them have
positive outcomes thanks to all the caring cat lovers who have adopted
from us over the years.
What
We Do
We ensure
that each cat rescued by TCR is treated for medical needs, spayed and
neutered, and receives a rabies vaccination if age appropriate.
We do not
have a shelter. Cats are housed in one of our foster homes to await their
adoption, which is why foster homes are such an important part of TCR's
program. Each foster home space that we have available represents one
more cat that we can assist. All of our volunteers are important, but
without foster homes and adoptions, we couldn't do our work.

Fostering
We always
need more foster homes for cats or kittens. Without foster homes we would
not be able to rescue the cats. If you are interested please complete
the application below.
Foster
Application (MS

If you would like to enquire about more information on fostering one of the many cats on our waiting list, feel free to contact us for more information. We are currently looking for foster homes for special needs cats (ie. diabetic), un-neutered males (so they can be neutered and recover in a caring foster home) and emergency placement foster homes.
Volunteering
There are lots of things you can do to volunteer for TCR. Fill out the form below and you will get an idea of the kinds of jobs the cats need from you.

Driving
Drivers
are needed to pick up cats from foster homes and drive them
to and from vet appointments, foster homes, etc... We also require drivers periodically for
various other reasons including picking up carriers/cat food/other supplies. Currently, we are desperate for drivers in the Kitchener area. Please specify if you are available
weekdays, evenings, or weekends. Please contact
us if you are interested in driving.
Trapping
We encourage the public to keep the feral cat population under control
in a humane way through TNR (Trap/Neuter/Release). We receive many calls
from people needing help trapping stray or feral cats. We currently do
not have the manpower to help these people in need. Please contact
us if you are interested in trapping - training will be provided.
Fundraising
If you have fantastic ideas and/or connections to help us raise
money for cats in need, please volunteer with TCR to see your ideas come to fruition. If there is a specific program you would
like to do an event for (ex. spay/neuter, a cat featured on our homepage)
or if you would like to be part of our ongoing fundraising
committee plan events like our Bowl-a-thon or Furball, please contact us.
Store Volunteers
TCR has wonderful affiliated store foster locations for our kitties while they wait for their forever families to adopt them. We are currently seeking volunteers to visit the cats in-store to make sure they have fresh food and water, clean bedding, dishes and litter boxes, as well as spend time cuddling and playing with the cats. Various locations, including Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga and Vaughan. Please contact us, attention Tracey.
Grant Writers
Toronto Cat Rescue is looking for volunteers who are interested in applying for grants. Many corporations give out grants to animal welfare groups and we know the money is out there but we are in need of volunteers who are able to help with these applications. Guidance and training will be provided. Remember, the more money we are able to raise, the more cats that we'll be able to help. Let's work together to help give cats a second chance at happiness. If you would be interested in helping us raise money for Toronto Cat Rescue, please contact our Grant Writing Coordinator Dianne.
Cat Assessors
TCR is looking for stray/feral assessors. You don't need to be very experienced with feral cats, but will be trained on TCR policies and our rescue philosophy. You will be asked by the Stray/Feral Foster Coordinator to go case by case to assess cats that are potentially entering the TCR foster system as we need to know what their personalities are like. Usually this will require meeting current caregivers at their place of residence to see the cats in their current environment. We try to keep our assessors local to where they live and you will be provided more information on how to do an assessment once you email your interest. Please email Sarah if you would like to help.
Temporary Recovery Homes
Do you want to help the kitties, but just don't know how or can't commit to being a foster parent full time? Please become a temporary/recovery home. You would not be conducting adoptions from your home, you will only be helping a kitty get healthy. TCR needs people that are willing to take sick or recovering kitties into their home for a short term stay (short as one week, as long as four weeks). You will have to be comfortable giving medications, eg: pills, eye drops, etc... You will need a nice cozy room or area in your home that is quiet, away from your own cats if you have any, so kitty can happily get well in peace. Lots of support will be given from the TCR store and foster home coordinators. Please feel free to ask any questions. Join our team of caring volunteers who help make a kitty's life just that much better, please contact Tracey.
