Earth Day 2024

This Earth Day we’re encouraging you to do something for the environment by donating unwanted or unused cat-related items to Toronto Cat Rescue.

Our main goal as a charity is to rescue cats and kittens in need, but we also do what we can for the environment by helping our community avoid unnecessary waste of items others could use. We accept donations of second hand equipment that would otherwise be destined to go into landfill - pet carriers, scratching posts, cat towers, that kind of thing!

Our Volunteer Centre, located at 4229C Dundas St West Etobicoke, accepts donations of lightly-used but no-longer-needed equipment that we share with our fosters for the cats in our care.

We also accept food donations, including kibble that has been opened, that we share with our foster volunteers and other rescue organisations.

Our Volunteer Centre houses so many donations, keeping them safe before they’re re-purposed, that it may be better to call it our donation centre!

We even have a small team of awesome volunteers who are up-cycling cat donated cat scratching posts.

As you can imagine these get some pretty serious wear and tear, but armed with some simple string our volunteers are doing great work rehabbing these key pieces of kit.

This is just one of the things we do to try to reuse, repurpose and restore equipment so it can have a second, third or fourth life!

We’ve not been able to do the math on it, but our mighty Volunteer Centre team will have helped rescue several tons of equipment over the years, and that’s a lot of CO2 saved!

Happy Earth Day everyone!
